The Opening Ceremony featured performances from Indigenous groups, Surf Lifesavers, Christine Anu, Mau Power, Ricki-Lee Coulter, Bobby Alu, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Youth Orchestra, Katie Noonan & Delta Goodrem. The dignitaries present included HRH Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall, PM Malcolm Turnbull and Head of GOLDOC Peter Beattie.
The show was closed by an appearance by 'Migaloo', the white humpback whale that is a regular visitor to the Gold Coast during Humpback migration season.
